My awareness of the fact that I am a member of the privileged class is not new. What is new is the recognition that my privilege obligates me to do more to further the cause of racial justice.
I wholeheartedly support the mission of the Black Lives Matter movement. I commit to being part of the solution to eradicate institutional racism in the United States and replacing it with a system that honors diversity and equality.
As an individual and business owner I promise to:
Educate myself on the history, experiences, and perspectives of Black, Indigenous and People of Color, and continue to listen and learn.
Evaluate what I think, say, and do and correct my unconscious bias.
Offer BIPOC clients unconditional positive regard and empathy for what is true to their life experience.
Offer quarterly coaching scholarships to a BIPOC woman.
Patronize and promote businesses owned by BIPOC people.
Hire contractors and purchase from companies committed to the values of diversity and fairness.
Contribute to nonprofit organizations working to correct racial disparities in health care.
Engage in the political process to advocate for policies that guarantee progress toward creating fair and just systems in the public and private sectors.
Apologize and learn from my mistakes when my actions are not in alignment with this statement.
Update this statement annually to share progress on my diversity and inclusion activities.
