Hi, I’m Carolyn! Welcome to my blog! I’m SO glad you’re here!
As a health and wellness coach, and now a “blogger,” my goal is to help people like you, who against all odds found me on the vast World Wide Web where 4.4 million blog posts are published every day! Talk about choices! I’ll do my very best to make it worth your while for choosing my site.
Even with millions of blog posts, the reality is (spoiler alert!) there are not that many original ideas. Content creators are sharing a mishmash of basically the same content and spinning it in their own unique voice. That’s a good thing! Because everyone has something special to offer the world; but not everyone will want what I create. Those peeps will go find what they need somewhere else. But my people will like what I have to say. I hope my words will inspire them/you! to take even just a small step toward creating better health and wellness.
That said, I want to share some guiding principles for my blog:
Being healthy is actually very simple.
Our bodies crave an ideal quality and quantity of food, water, movement, sunlight, sleep, calm, and connection. There is no secret formula. When the barriers or perceived barriers to giving our body what it needs are identified and strategically removed our best health falls into place.
Our genes are not our destiny.
We inherit our genes from our parents, and we inherit their lifestyle, most significantly diet. Regardless of your family health history, chronic disease does not necessarily have to be your experience. We have a lot more information about nutrition and health than our parents did. You can give those family recipes a makeover and bring Mom and Dad along for the ride.
It’s never too late to make health a priority.
Whatever your age or health status, when you begin to consistently make healthy choices your body and mind quickly notice. Lab results and vital signs can improve within weeks. The scale and mirror take longer. When we connect to the below-the-surface reasons why health is important to us we are energized to stay focused, which helps us reach our aesthetic goals. They may actually become less of a priority over time.
Progress not perfection.
Voltaire nailed this principle when he said, “…the perfect is the enemy of the good.” In other words, doing anything worthwhile imperfectly is better than not trying at all. The best analogy I can offer is a baby learning to walk. When she falls do we say, “You’re a failure, baby. Don’t try to walk again.” Of course we don’t! Embrace 5-minute workouts, 1-minute meditation practices, awkward yoga, or 1 carrot stick before each meal and know that things get easier as we continue to do them.
I have a couple of practical goals for this blog, too:
- I’ll strive to help you conserve money, time, and energy so you can put those resources into your wellness journey account. The content I create will honor this objective, and I’ll do my best to present information in a way that is as clear and to the point as possible.
- I’ll use evidence-based scientific research findings in the many facets of health and wellness to help illuminate the path forward. When we understand the “why” behind an action we take, we have more confidence to keep working toward our goals, especially when we experience challenges.
Like me, like you, my blog is a work in progress. It will evolve and grow. I look forward to having you along for the journey!
I would love to hear from you. Please tell me what kind of content you’re craving in the comments below!
P.S. Here are some fun facts about me!
- My official wellness journey began on New Year’s Day 2013 at a yoga workshop where I set an intention to be nicer to myself.
- I love cats, yoga, vegan cooking, long walks, short stories, and bubble baths.
- I’ve been vegan since 1998 and transitioned to a whole food plant-based diet in early 2019. I’ve never felt better!
- I was born in the San Francisco Bay Area but grew up in a small, agricultural town in California’s Central Valley, where my first job was cutting enormous trays of fresh apricots for drying.
- I have one younger sister who has two amazing daughters and I love watching them become who they are.
- My independence, a desire to make our world a little better, and being here for my nieces are the values that motivate me to make my health my number one priority.
- My seventh great-grandparents John Fisher and Elizabeth Hindle, Quakers from England, sailed with the William Penn expedition to the American Colony of Pennsylvania in 1682.
- My hidden talents are installing contact paper in cabinets and drawers and catching typos in restaurant menus.
- My “bucket list” includes being the cool girl who plays guitar at campfires and figuring out how to use hyphens properly.
- I truly believe the answer to all the world’s problems is unconditional love. If we can learn to love ourselves we can learn to love everyone, because we’re the same divine energy walking around in 7+ billion bodies.
I’d love to get to know you. Please share something about you below in the comments!
